We are located in a little country town called Ramona in the San Diego area.
Although Ramona can be thought of as a cowboy town,
there is also a big interest in English riding and Eventing in the community.
Our Pony Club holds mounted lessons twice each month. Our riding meetings are held at two outstanding
equestrian facilities in Ramona.
Copper Meadows, located at 633 Montecito Way, is a full
service boarding and training facility with a well known USEA and USEF cross country course.
The Owner of Copper Meadows, Carolyn Hoffos, graciously supports Pony Club and allows our use
of her ranch. Pony Club members and families can be seen volunteering at Copper Meadows shows
and selling food on schooling days.
We also ride at the International Equestrian Center which is a homeowner
facility at the San Diego Country Estates just outside of Ramona. This venue offers boarding
and training and has a track. The address for the IEC is 16911 Gunnstage Road.
In addition to the monthly lessons, our club organizes two clinics that are open to all
interested riders.
The instruction program is run by Sarah VandenBerg who is an Advanced Level Competitor,
USPC "A" Graduate, and United States Eventing Association Level III Certified Instructor.
Sarah operates Briarwood Riding School out of Copper Meadows.
Erin Boeddart is also on the instruction team. She is a USPC "A" Graduate from Fallbrook Pony Club
and teaches Horse Management to our C level pony clubbers.
Our C level pony clubbers teach Horse Management to our D level pony clubbers and assist Sarah at mounted meetings.
We are part of the Southern California Region which covers an area from the Mexico border to LA
and from the Pacific to Arizona. The region has 10 local clubs operating at present.
The Region supports a number of rallies where the clubs compete against each other.
Regional teams then compete in the National rallies.
The Region organizes teaching clinics for instructors and examiners.
They also organize training for the club leaders.
Ramona Vicente Pony Club is responsible for hosting the horseless rally each year.
This is not a competition as such but is used to guide new members and parents through
what goes on at a Rally. This is really a teaching clinic.
The main part of Pony Club is the rating system. USPC has set a standard for each rating level.
This is based on ability and not age. Each child works towards their next rating independent
of each other. We provide prep guides which detail the skills that need to be covered.
Its the pony clubbers responsibility to get the instructor to sign off on each skill as
it is mastered and to ask to be tested when all skills are mastered.
The rating tests are conducted by an outside examiner.
Each club has a set of policies which govern how the club is run.
Different clubs have different policies as they are written by the club to set the character of the club.
The club is lead by a set of elected officers but the club is run by the parents who have voting rights.
Our policies are on this web site. Please take a look at how we are organized.
